Our Day at the Jurong Bird Park

It's the school holidays and Jd's cousin, Elodie is staying with us for an entire week! Since hubby and I don't have to work, we brought the girls to the bird park. Apparently everyone else in Singapore seems to have the same idea too. We waited for a good hour to get into the park. However, the wait was worth the while as the kiddies had a blast. Elodie enjoyed running around in the park occasionally saying hello to the birds and JD was just enjoying watching Elodie.

JD was already grouching before we got into the park.

Bed time pictures

Sleep training was always on my agenda, for the past few days, I've been trying to get JD to fall asleep by herself. It usually takes about an hour for her to fall asleep but there's always satisfaction when she finally goes into snooze-dom.

Hari Raya Staycation

It's the New Year for the Muslims here in Singapore. So what do other races do? We take the opportunity to enjoy ourselves within the island.. somewhat.. Well, my sister and I were contemplating where we could go for our year end vacation since JD is still a baby and she was with child. After much deliberation, we settled for Rasa Sentosa Shangri-la.

We booked oursevles a 3 day 2 night package and checked ourselves into 3 rooms with seaview! So, it's a granny, her 2 girls with their hubs and 2 granddaughters and another one in the oven.

Project bottle feed

i'll be going back to work soon and we are trying to bottle feed Jod. Tonite is the first nite of trying and its milk down the drain.

Lazy thurs afternoon

J has been sick for the past week and it is getting worrysome as well as tiring when I have to handle Jodie on my own. Anyways, here's to a lazy afternoon.

When routine goes out the window

It's been a tiring 2 mths. I'm amazed I managed to get myself this far. From a little darling, Jodie is now a devil in a baby's out fit. I'm not too thrilled by that. Then again, no mommy would. I used to have her on a perfect schedule til life took over and screwed up the entire process.

I realised that perfection is not possible when life's going on. Now, I have an incredibally fussy baby who is nursing for forever. I keep looking for solutions and came up with nothing. As tired as I may be, i still persist on in search of that solution.

2 mth milestone

Time flies so quickly. Jodie has not reached her 2 mth milestone.

- She's now able to voice out her opinion.
- she enjoys going out
- She recognises grandma's voice and looks forward to seeing her on the weekends.
- She's able to follow our voice and turn her head 180 degrees and follow us.
- When put on her tummy, she can lift her head 45 degrees for quite a while.
- She stares at us when we have a conversation with her.
- She can tell that daddy and mommy are not getting on well.
- I glimspe a hint of cheekiness in her.

It's been a tiring 2 mths with her but it just seems so worth the while when she gives me the " I'm so cute look" then my heart melts.

I've only got one more month to go before I have to get back to work and I'm starting to miss our time together already.

3 weeks old

As of today, Jod's officially 3 weeks old. Gosh, time does fly when you're having fun doesn't it?

Milestones a plenty at this point in time.

For starters, Jod's finding her personality right now. Habits are also starting to develop with her. When the girl wants her milk, she wants it now. Not later, it has to be now. If the milk is not to her liking.. it takes a bloody hour to feed her. With this girl, I never know when she's had enough. She seems to be feeding all the time. Not that I'm complaining. She's on a gain weight mission as ordered by the Doctor so I'm letting her feed all she wants.

Jod likes to be walked. By walking I mean she likes to be carried and walked around the house so she can check out the scene. This is going to be one party animal in the making.

When milking her cow of a mummy, she likes to kiao kah (curl her legs), she has to be a 45 degree angle from the boob. No more and no less. Just 45 degree please. You don't tell her she's done. She tells you when she's done.

She doesn't sleep at night, she just wants to milk her cow. When preparing her for a bath, she only likes water to be splashed on her, she doesn't like to be cleaned with a cloth.

She has this silly smile when she tries to fall asleep which is damn cute cos she shows off her one sided dimple.

All in all, this is one cute calf in the making. =)

Birth story

So here it goes, Jodie's birth story.

It all started when we checked in at 12 midnight into Raffles Hospital. Shortly after, the nurse started to induce the labour and this was the beginning of my 14 hour labour before the birth of my first born.

After the inducing, there was generally nothing to do but get some sleep. To me it was tough was the mild contractions were coming in gently and surely. Then... there was hubby's snoring which generally kept me awake quite abit. Surviving on very little snooze, 6 am quickly approached and the nurse woke me up for breakfast and at that time I think I was 2 cm dilated.

At about 7am or so, Dr Goh came in to break my water bag. When she did the check, my waterbag had already broke by itself. So it was all that jabbing around for nothing. Ouch. By then, the contractions were coming in stronger and the nurses were telling me that I should make up my mind when I wanted to do the epidural. I was generally expecting a pretty long labour and the contraction pains was starting to get to me. After 30 mins, I gave up. The pain was driving me crazy. That's when I asked for the epidural.

When they gave me my epidural, it was pure relieve as I started to feel all numb in my legs. I kept wiggling my toes just to make sure that my legs were still there. I was glad that I made the decision to get epidural as it really made me feel more comfortable during the labour.

Doc Goh had predicted a noon delivery and I honestly thought that we could get it done by lunch time. Woohoo! Talk about efficiency. Then she said, my dear, noon came be late noon you know! Oh drats.

As we progressed to lunch, I still wasn't very dilated. I got bored. TV wasn't entertaining me enough. At about 2 pm, I was all alone in the room and then I felt it. Jodie's head was starting to poke through. Okay. I thought to myself. I don't know what this means but I think I'd better call for help.

When the nurse came in, she did some checks and I asked if I should hold or something cause I wasn't able to stop her come proding any longer. The nurse wanted me to hold as Dr Goh was suppose to be with another patient who was delivering before me. The good nurse left me alone to "hold" the baby which I had no idea how to.

5 minutes later, she came in and asked me to practise to push. I had question marks all over my face. She looked at me and said ok I'll guide you. The next thing I knew, the nurses comes in to prepare for delivery, I was calling the hubby to come back into the room and then Doc Goh walts in and puts on her gear and preps me for delivery.

With the epidural, I couldn't feel a thing when the contractions came in. We had to depend on the monitor to tell when it was coming and I was ordered to push was if I was having the hell biggest poop of my life.

It took about 5 contractions of pushing with 2 nurses at each side to help move the baby in the tummy to deliver the baby. Poop! and Jodie was out! Woohoo! That's when I heard her first cry and held her in my arms for the first time. Oh my goodness. During this time, Doc Goh gets hubby to cut her umbilical cord. I must say I'm proud of hubby. He did not faint and it actually cut the cord.

So they then cleaned her up and weight her and all. She's was weighing only 2.45kg when she popped. We were expecting her to be heavier but what the hell. Oh, by the way, did I also mention that she's half a metre long in length?

About the moo

It's been a long and tiring journey these past 9 months and in a matter of days, we welcome the arrival of our little precious one.

We had our doctor appointment last saturday and were met with not so good news. The doctor did a scan and proclaim that our darling is doing fine. Then as she scanned on.. she discovered that I'm low on amnotic fluid. That was some cause for concern. So I'm on strict orders to drink up and get my amnotic fluid back on track otherwise, we would have to induce the princess on tue. I was pretty unsettled when she informed us on the plans. When she asked if I had any questions, I was so disturbed that I didn't have any questions in my mind. But hubby, bless my sweet sweet hubby kept everything on track and asked the right questions.

So tomorrow is the next check up and I've been diligently drinking up. Now I feel like a water buffalo now. I hope there's enough liquid in the belly now. I do feel the moo doing her water ballet stunt these 2 days.

*cross fingers that all is well*

It amazing how we've all survived the past nine months of my pregnancy as a couple. There was so many sacrifies that he made for the baby and so much temper control I had to do. I've still got so much growning up to do and the baby will be arriving soon. Do I have enough time?

At the most recent checkup, the moo was 2.9kg and busy playing with her fingers. *heart melts* Let's see how big she grows in just 3 days. But in the meantime, it's bed rest for me. My back hurts like hell.

Honey Citron Tea

I chance upon this beverage when we had our lunch with the big boss the other day at Sarang, a Korean fine dining restaurant at Science Park 1. The beverage was served either hot or cold and being a lover of cold drinks at the moment, I had it served with ice.

Initially, I was impressed with how this drink had orange peel and honey. I thought that it was a lovely concoction. How cleverly they managed make the orange peel taste so sweet. Only then did I know that it was actually a pre-processed drink that we can just add water to a concentrated formula and voila! It turns into this delicious drink.

A colleague of mine reintroduced this drink to me today. I thought to myself that I should get a jar of this and keep it in the fridge so that I can have a healthy drink which is none gasy to have after I finish confinement so that it doesn't hurt the moo when I breastfeed.

I was told that I could get this at the local NTUC. Unfortunately, they didn't carry it at the NTUC near my place. However, I found it at Yue Hwa! Lo and behold a Chinese departmental stall would carry Korean food products.

If you want to buy this. I've found a website that sells it. B.O.S Co Ltd

Presenting... Vegetarian Wu Xiang

Colleague brought us to tiong bahru for lunch today and look what we've discovered! Something new today!
May I present Vegetarian Wu Xiang.

Doc appt

We saw the chubster today she's at 2.425kg so far. I've got abit more eating today. Strange that all the pounds are packing on me instead and she's just daintily taking bits of weight here and there.

I'm wondering if i I can attribute it to her long legs or not.

Doc says that she's not on the way out yet. But it could be a good thing to just keep her in there for a while longer to pack on the weight. But she did remind me not to pack on too much. Which was what I had in mind. Karolyn also felt that keeping her a nice size would be an easier delivery. I'm happy to know that she feels the same way.

My name is Jodie

So it's out! Our princess has a name. Her name is Jodie! It took 5 months of squabbling with the hubby before we came up with her name. Hubby had high standards for her future daughter. Like her chinese name which is still in the process of naming, needs to be the perfect name in his point of view.

After 5 months, one fine day, hubby informs me that he wants to name OUR child after him. He was going to name her Josephine because it was his name. Oh blimey. The man has too big an ego.

The next day in the car, I told him that I'll meet him half way. He can't use the whole name Josephine but I'm willing to have part of the name in it. After much thought, with a toothpick in his mouth. Hubby surprises me.. "Let's call her Jody!" So I said " J.O.D.Y?" "No!" he insist. "J.O.D.I.E!" smiles at his own accomplishment.

So there, that's how we came up with her name.

Now we need to come up with her chinese name which hubby is keeping me in suspense. He will only reveal 5 potential names when he comes up with all 5 while seeking toilet inspiration. So far, there's only 4 names. Sigh....

A home away from home get away

I'm now at 35 weeks. Travelling overseas at this point in time is frown upon by hubby. Since hubby has got something to say about going away for a short trip. I booked us a weekend escapade to the other side of the island, Changi Village.

Hubby and I were in bad need of a getaway and the thought of going to Sentosa just wasn't tickling my fancy. So, I checked out Changi Village hotel's website and stumbled on this weekend package.

"Weekend Escapade @ $199++

Escape from the bustle of city life and retreat to a haven of the east, Changi Village Hotel. Spend an idyllic weekend in the lush edenic surrounds overlooking the golf course and sparkling waters of the poolside. " (source from Changi Village Hotel)

Without thought, I booked it. We were lucky, the hotel staff assigned us a room with a view.

The weekend getaway was a good one. We ate what we wanted to eat, rested as much as we wanted too. Most importantly, got to see what we wanted to see too.

You see the carpark in the picture above, by night it transforms into a pickup joint for the lady boys. With a room with a view, we were checking out the night scene in the comforts of our hotel room. It was a good thing as the lady boys were able "work" and we were just enjoying the scene.

Hubby was pleased with our getaway. We finished the vacation feeling refreshed. Definitely something to do if we need to getaway with the moo in future.

Doc Apptmt last Sat

I totally forgot. We had our checkup last Sat. Miss long legs is doing well @ 2.3KG. Doc says that she would like her to gain abit more weight. So its time to feast again.

We were quite amused that the princess was busy sticking her tongue out during the scan. Even the doc was also amused.

why did u give me a pee stick ?

I had my head buried in work the other day and the office manager can around and placed a package on the table. I took a look at it, scratched my head and almost asked 'why are you giving me a pee stick? I already know I'm having a baby.' Before I spoke, I took a second look at the package and realised it was a thermometer pack.

OD on the booties

While mommy and I were packing my maternity bag, mommy asked where the baby clothes for 0-3mth are.. for one moment, I'd forgotten that I've packed the clothes into categories by age, so we runsack the cupboard for the right size clothes and now I have to repack everything again.

Then mom asked about the booties and I told her i want the pink one and so we had to find a pink mitten to match, after going through the stash, mom mentions that there seems to be too little booties and mittens. She recalled that there's more of them. For the life of me, I couldn't remember where the rest of them where.

So, I went around the house to dig up baby stuff stashed all over the house. Now, we have a gazillion booties and not enough mittens. Sigh, I guess that's what happens when everyone buying something that we think we lack off...

Itchy patches

Ever since the first trimester, I've been experiencing nasty rashes on my legs. It gets so itchy that I spend more time scratching my legs than anything else. Not to mention the ugly red patches on my legs.

It was only during my visits to the pedicurist that she recommended me an extra strong moisturiser. I had to use a whole tube of it first before the effects started to show.

Althought this is just a foot cream. Using it on my legs prove to be really effective. My rashes disappeared and I feel so much more comfortable on a hot day. I don't have to scratch so much and my skin condition has improved tons.

So if you are suffering the same thing as me, I would recommend this to you. It's available at almost all the manicure shops. However, it's abit on the pricy side. =P

Food for the soul

Today is a great day. Hubby came to pick me up from work and we headed down to his favourite place for dinner.

This place that's very near my office. As hubby claims.. it really does serve the best steak that he's tasted so far.

Dinner is served.

I had the T-bone steak with red wine sauce. I should have choose hubby's option of mushroom sauce but then again.. my nasty habit. What every hubby orders always taste better. I was busy stealing his fries, much to his dismay.

I, on the other hand managed to maintain my weigh at 1.5kg gain per month. Yay! However, my sugar level seems to be higher than usual. Althought the Karolyn assures me all is fine. Looks like I have to cut back on my cakes. Boohoo....

My baby network support

When you have a baby in Singapore. A good family next work is a must. During pregnancy, you depend on the older generation to nourish you n your little one. For the excitement of the arrival of ur newborn. For the shopaholic all grannies/ mummies turn into when they see cute baby stuffs and thus buy almost every possible baby stuff in sight. Saving you the trip out so you can concentrate on other important stuffs. Like pigging out or lazing around, Neat huh?.

Most importantly, the baby network is there to support you after your baby is born. As it's expensive to engage a full time baby sitter whilst you are at work. Relying on family is the next best option. Plus, we are at least reassured that your child is in trusted care. You can therefore do your job in peace.

Try as I might not to take forgranted the little things in life. But sometimes it is a challenge even to just get the small stuffs accomplished. Juggling work and family is definitely not easy. Although, I'm not there yet, nearly there but still not there yet, I'm still mindful of all the little things in life that the family has done for me.

For now, I'm kicking back, relaxing and enjoying the good life before the moolette's arrival. I am anticipating the arrive of the moolette and trying to take it all in. Ooh the sweet life.

Virgin blog

Ah.. sweet virgin blog.

First, an introduction.

Who is moolette?

Hehehe she would have to be the princess that's performing her under water stunts in my belly as I type.

In a couple of months, the moolette will be joining us to form a family of three. Can't hardly wait!

You see this little bugger took 3 years to make. 3 long years of ups and downs, blood, sweat and tears no doubt. Forcing the hubby to take his daily potion of baby making elixir was definitely not a joy! Bleah!

Anyways, I'm currently progressing into my 6th month. Tho' I think it's a wee bit early, we have started purchasing stuffs for the baby. That's not all, my family has been getting so excited over the arrival of moolette that they are helping out with the shopping where ever they can. I feel loved. I'm touched by all the love everyone is showing me and in particularly the moolette.

Bit by bit, everything is getting into place and this blog is helping me sort myself out and also an avenue of outlet when the moolette does her ballerina thing again. Haha..
